SHIPPING DOCUMENTATION  Q&A'S

  • What is an ATA Carnet?

A Carnet, also known as ATA Carnet (pronounced kar-nay), is a physical customs document, which serves as a temporary passport for goods. It enables hassle-free customs clearance in a whopping 87 countries by exempting duty and import taxes on goods that are meant for re-exportation within 12 months* of their arrival.

It is generally for trade fairs or exhibitions, or for professional equipment and samples.

  • What documents are required for a customs declaration?

You will be required to provide a commercial invoice, packing list, transport document known as a Bill of Lading / CMR. You will also need to ensure the fore mentioned documents contain freight rate, commodity codes & country of origin.

  • What products require an export health certificate?

You must apply for an EHC if you're exporting or moving live animals or animal products from Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) to, or through: the EU.

  • What are the different types of CHED?

There are four main types of common health entry documents (CHED), these are:

    • CHED-A for consignments of live animals.
    • CHED-P for consignments of products of animal origin, germinal products, animal by-products and derived products, composite products, and hay and straw.
    • CHED-PP for consignments of plants, plant products and other objects.
    • CHED-D for consignments of food and feed of non-animal origin.
  • When do I need an appointment with SIVEP?

SIVEP stands for Subdirectorate. Veterinary and Phytosanitary Border. Inspection Office.

This may vary between countries, but for example; When traveling with more than 5 animals, a passage through the veterinary inspection service (SIVEP) of the port of Calais on arrival in France is mandatory. An appointment should always be been made with the SIVEP service BEFORE leaving the United Kingdom.

  • What is a GMR reference?

The GMR is a unique identifier issued by HMRC to identify the record. The GMR specifies: the direction of the crossing, the registration number of the vehicle making the crossing (unless the movement will be unaccompanied) and the trailer numbers of all trailers attached to the vehicle.

  • Do I need to create a new government gateway account for IPAFFS?

Rossi Shipping can walk you through this, but No – if you have an existing government gateway account you can select the option ‘register for other services' and then select 'IPAFFS' when going through the IPAFFS Registration steps.

If you do not have an existing government gateway account, then yes - you do need to register for IPAFFS and create a new government gateway account as part of the registration steps.
